Mixed media artwork by Jiang Mafu - using a technique with rice paper, paint and charcoal - After several years of artistic training in the Netherlands and Belgium, both in Brussels and Antwerp, where he stayed five years, Mafu emigrated to Canada in 1997, where he now lives and works in the graphic industry. The work brings the Chinese philosophy of both Tai ji ials Ying and Yang together. The paper is his medium, he creates with paper, the so-called Xuan paper, that is made from both rice and the bark of certain trees. The work was created by using different media such as brushes, paint and by sticking several layers of rice paper together. This piece is paper mounted on canvas. Applying elements is intentional as well as coincidental, it is an interactive relationship between creating and destroying (Ying and Yang) . Mafu was born in Nanjing on the 1st of January, 1963.
